BELL CAPITAL CUP
Chinese clubs off to fast start

By BARRE CAMPBELL, OTTAWA SUN

The three teams from China nearly completed a clean sweep at the Bell Capital Cup yesterday.

The Harbin Red Stars led the way for the Asian clubs, winning once and tying their second game during the opening day of competition.

Ziyang Zhu scored four times during a 7-1 victory over the Kanata Ice Wolves in Atom House B action, then Harbin tied the South Stormont Selects 3-3.

The two other Chinese entries also scored opening-day wins.

In Atom House A, the Sinoca Beijing Dragons got the winning goal from Song An Dong in the third period during a 3-2 victory over the West Ottawa Silver Bullets.

The Qiqihar Snow Leopards got a hat trick from Zhihao Zhang in a 9-2 win over the South End Storm.

Two of the Chinese teams are in action today.

The Snow Leopards are scheduled to play the Kanata Ice Hawks at 4:45 p.m. at the Corel Centre before tonight's Senators game against the Islanders.

Players from the various Chinese teams will attend tonight's NHL game and will stand with players from both clubs during the playing of the national anthems.

The Dragons are scheduled for an 8:55 a.m. contest at the Walter Baker Sports Centre in Barrhaven against the Leitrim Hawks.

The Red Stars next play at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow against the Stittsville Spitfires at the Ray Friel Centre in Orleans.
