FOCUS: On Women, On Diversity by Katie Sheean So many times in life, we are not given an avenue to confront, challenge, and rethink everyday situations. Often, our journals, friends, parents, and teachers become our venting strategies. We urge you to make these thoughts and ideas public through FOCUS: On Women, On Diversity journal. FOCUS is a forum for students and staff to address contemporary social issues and explore diversity in their lives, lives shaped by ethnicity, economics, sexual preference, race, economics, age, and religion. This journal is sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program and is chaired by Connie Koppelman. We at FOCUS aim at providing a supportive place for students and faculty of Stony Brook University to confront, challenge, and examine the above issues. To achieve this goal, we accept essays, poetry, short stories, academic papers, artwork, photography, woodcuts, etc. Preference will be given to works addressing feminist, campus, and multi-cultural issues. We invite you to publish
your best work through our journal. Please drop off submissions in the
Women’s Studies Office, Old Chemistry Bldg., Room 105. You can also email
submissions to us at
focus@ic.sunysb.edu. (If anyone is interested in submitting art, please
do so through the WST Office. Please indicate that you would like your work
returned and we will be glad to do so via mail.)
