(Stony Brook - WABC,
November 6, 2006) - Suffolk County
police have arrested a 13-year-old juvenile in connection with a
SUNY-Stony Brook fire that damaged the Chapin Apartments on
Health Science Drive.
The teen was charged with
arson and released into the custody of his parents.
He will appear in Family
Court at a later date.
The fire occurred on
August 23. Flames shot through the roof of the building,
causing a collapse into the second floor.
Students
in the apartment building, who live there year-round, were
evacuated. None were injured.
The building is student
housing for graduate and medical students as well as for
married students.
Within Chapin, there are
one and two bedroom apartments for couples and families,
four to six bedroom apartments for undergraduate students,
and three and four bedroom apartments for single graduate
students and students in the Health Sciences Center
