ASA Cabinet after Asian Night 2006 |
by
Angeline Seah with Wanda Hun
Now that the Fall semester and Asian Night
are over, Asian Students Alliance’s
executive board members are planning
spectacular events for Spring 2007. In
addition to the annual Nations of Asia
Semi-Formal (details still to come, so be on
the lookout for flyers and announcements)
ASA has lined up some fun social events
coming up soon.
For those who are new to campus, Asian
Students Alliance is a student club that
welcomes everyone to join. Our cause is to
create a sense of community/presence at
Stony Brook where we can depend upon as well
as be inspired by during the years you are
attending SBU. Our biggest event of the year
is ‘Asian Night’ which is held during the
fall. The show includes singing, dancing,
and skits performed by your fellow peers.
ASA wants you to have a place where you can
let go, have fun with friends while learning
about the Asian culture. So join us in our
events this semester and enjoy!
2007’s first general body meeting will be
held in time for the Chinese New Year, which
is the theme for the night. It will be in
SAC 305 on Tuesday, February 13, from 8:30pm
to 10pm. You can sign up to help with all
the activities and become more involved with
the organization linking all different
Asians together. There will be free Chinese
food and candies, origami, Chinese
ornaments, and raffle prizes. Join us for a
good time and meet new people while you’re
at it!
The next week will be the big Sudoku
Tournament being held during campus
lifetime, 12:30pm to 2:10pm, in SAC Ballroom
B on Wednesday, February 28. There has never
been a Sudoku tournament on campus before
and now ASA gives you the opportunity to be
the first champion. Come check out the game
and the competition while eating free
catered sushi. There’s no better way to
spend an afternoon.
And as of right now, last but not least is
ASA’s Charity Poker Tournament. In order to
be admitted into the tournament, all players
must bring a canned good (non perishable)
with them to the door. These canned goods
will be collected and donated to the Long
Island Cares charity to help feed
underprivileged individuals. This Charity
Poker Tournament will be held Thursday,
March 22, in SAC Ballroom A from 7pm to
10pm. Remember to bring canned foods to
‘buy-in’ for the tournament. Winner gets a
special prize. But you don’t need to win the
tournament to get some free pizza and a free
tee-shirt! Not interested in participating
in the poker game? That’s fine too! Just
show up with your donation, get a t-shirt,
have pizza and meet people.
There will be lots more events this spring
so join the ASA Facebook group and the
E-Zine Yahoo group to get weekly updates,
