Asian / Asian American Clubs
Cabinet to Cabinet Social
SAC Over the Cafeteria
Sunday : Sept 28th, 2008 : 7PM

Each year [AA]2 and AA E-Zine bring the Boards of many of the major Asian and Asian American clubs on campus together so that everyone can meet everyone else. This year it was also co-sponsored by AAJ, the Asian American Journal.

Last year former Zine Editor-in-Chief Huy Huynh co-chaired with CASB President Derrick Tan a new alliance, ASC, the Asian Students Coalition, that arose from the concepts of the Social - that the Asian and Asian American clubs program and work together - and they did a full week of joint events for the Lunar New Year.

It is also vital for when the need arises to be unified. A few years ago USG wanted to put all campus Asian interest programming funds into one club to distribute on an event by event basis until the clubs rose up in protest and the plan was stopped. And maybe if we were unified the fourth floor of the Wang Center Celebrating Asian and Asian American Cultures would not now be under renovation to become Alumni Association offices.

This year the Social was held earlier than usual so that ASC could use it as a springboard to have the clubs unite to do more combined activities earlier than they had last year. The MC's for the evening were Jack Xiang from the Zine, Jon Hu from AAJ and ASA, and CJ Cancino from PUSO.

After everyone ate members of each organization were seated at different tables for two related ice breakers. Everyone at each table had to remember everyone else's name and what club they were from. Then the MC's went to each table and randomly asked a person what another person's name was. Then one person from each table had to say the names and clubs of every other person at the table. Since some tables had 6 and some 10 it was a little unfair but no one complained and two winners left with prizes.

Then each club got up and introduced themselves and their Cabinets to everyone and talked about their plans for the upcoming semester. For ASA the fall is their big event, Asian Night, while all the other major clubs hold their main cultural show in the spring - China Night, Korean Night, PUSOFest, and Sholay. KSA just had its BBQ and its next big event is a semi-formal. PUSO was having its open mic night that week and will have Halo Halloween at the end of the month as well as other activities. SASA, which holds two big events in the spring, a fashion show as well as its cultural show, is also doing a Halloween costume event. CASB just had its Mah Jong Tournament and will have a Cultural Carnival at the end of the month and a Poker Night in November. China Blue, a radio show on WUSB 90.1FM is media like the Zine and AAJ and does not have lots of events. Its two annual ones are its recent Mid-Autumn Fest and in the spring its Lunar New Year Fest.

All events will be posted on the Zine calendar.
