Earth Hour: March 28, 2009
For 1 hour across 24 global hours
most of the world joined together
(an amazing feat in and of itself!)
to do exactly the same thing -
enjoy the darkness...
It was incredibly illuminating! |

The best group of photos we have found is on
the Boston Globe website. As you click on each one,
it fades from lights on to lights off during Earth Hour.
Unfortunately it doesn't have it all. Below is NYC taken
before and after, shot by Joergen Geerds. Even more
unfortunately, NYC was pitiful compared to other cities.
Stony Brook U was worse. We stood outside looking at the
glow of the campus in the fog from a quarter of a mile away
- and it never dimmed.
We have not been able to find the
panorama of Hong Kong Harbor we saw that night but of all
the cities in the world, we think Hong Kong did the most
amazing job. Renowned for its light displays, for that one
hour it could barely be seen. Now we need to do this more
than one hour a year. All cities should begin by going dark
at 1am every night.
