Each year the Editorial
Board members of
each of the student media organizations vote on submissions
by their peer organizations. Since they
cannot vote on their own organization's submissions, it is a
validating
peer review for those involved.
Isobel Breheny, Media
Advisor for Student Activities and a WUSB alumna, knows
firsthand how rewarding the recognition is for students who
put in tremendous amounts of time and effort. This year she
held the ceremony in the University Cafe. It was only marred
by the rescheduled Roth Regatta that forced media
organizations to be split between the two events. Isobel, Joan Gumbs,
alumna Editor of Blackworld, and Norm Prusslin, former Media
Advisor and now Director of the Media Arts Minor and Tabler
LLC, gave the opening remarks to put it all in perspective.
While everyone did a great job, at the AA E-Zine and
AAJ we're very happy for two of our staff /
contributors who won:
'Oliver' Hao Li, First Place for Best News Story, for his moving
photographic journal of his trip through Beichuan after the
massive earthquake in Sichuan leveled the city.
'Oliver' again, Second Place for Best Photograph for the Taiko
Project in the Wang Center.
Ken-Wing Lee, although he is more well known as a WUSB China Blue
DJ, First Place for Best Written Work for his spoken word
essay/poem Reflections of Today.
And the winners are...
