China Blue's Halloween
Fright
Fest

by
Kenneth Yu

On October 20th, China Blue hosted a Halloween party cosponsored by CASB, CCF, DDKY, JSO, Korean Life and TSA. The event, consisting of performances from various musical groups, dinner, and games, comprised a full evening of enjoyment.

The Halloween party started off with an animated short movie that never quite played perfectly on the projector. Three speakers introduced the various clubs present and the origins of the party in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. The first musical group up was a Korean rock band playing Pachelbel's Canon and a grunge type song. The Halloween theme was composed mostly of scary yard ornaments and an animal brain in the middle of the food table.

In the long interlude between the Taiko drummers, the free food servers presented some of the best cuisine that any conglomerate of cosponsoring clubs can afford. There was the regular Asian influenced dishes of fried rice, white rice, bok choy, pork pieces in brown sauce, wonton soup, and roasted chicken. Thanksgiving and party inspired delicacies also made an appearance in the form of pumpkin pie, barbeque wings, and shrimp. The hidden highlight of the feast was cold smoked salmon, which was introduced halfway through the party. This raw salmon had a buttery texture and a rich cheese taste.

After the drummers did their show, the event slowly wound down as the food ran out.
